Indian left-arm spinner Murali Kartik has retired from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. However, he confirmed his availability to play for Kings XI Punjab for the Champions League Twenty20 this year. The 37-year-old has made his Test debut against South Africa at Mumbai in 2000 and has represented India in 8 Tests, 37 one-dayers and one Twenty20 international. " I have decided to hang up my boots from all forms of competitive cricket but will honour my commitments for Kings XI Punjab during this year's Champions League T20, " said Kartik. In his English county career, he had also represented Middlesex, Somerset, Surrey and Lancashire. Although, he was a regular in the Indian Premier League , represented Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Pune Warriors and Kings XI Punjab. Kartik claimed 24 Test wickets at an average of 34.16 and 37 ODI wickets at an average of 43.56.

South Africa ’s test skipper, Graeme Smith is all set to retire from international cricket after the end of the final Test against Australia in Cape Town.   The 33-year-old left handed batsman has played 33 Twenty20 internationals, 197 one-day internationals and currently playing his 117th Test match with total 9262 runs an average of 48.49. Smith said in an interview after the third day's play at Newlands, "This has been the most difficult decision I have ever had to make in my life. It's a decision that I have been considering since my ankle surgery in April last year. I have a young family to consider, and I felt that retiring at Newlands would be the best way to end it because I have called this place home since I was 18 years-old." During his captaincy, South Africa became the No.1 Test side in ICC’s rankings in 2012. However, Smith still continue to play for Surrey in County Cricket .

Former Ireland skipper Trent Johnston confirmed that he plans to retire from international cricket in December 2013. Australian born Johnston has played 186 times for Ireland, appearing in both the 2007 and 2011 World Cups. The 39-year-old, Johnston said: " It's becoming harder to recover after matches now, so much so that I can hardly walk for a couple of days. " "After a tour to the United Arab Emirates, it took me a full week to recover and my young son Charlie and daughter Claudia were having to pull on and off my socks, so that was quite embarrassing! "I knew then my time was limited and, although it would have been great to play in another World Cup in Australia, it was just beyond me. He announced his retirement at an emotional press conference room at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has announced his retirement from international cricket on Friday. Lee said via Twitter, " It's official, I have retired from international cricket. Thanks for all your love and support. It's been an amazing 13 years. " Lee, 35, said it was the right time to end to his 13 years long career. Lee had alreadt retired from Tests in February 2010.  In his career Lee took 310 wickets in Tests and 380 in one-day internationals. He will continue to play in the KFC Big Bash League and the Indian Premier League .

South African wicket-keeper and batsman, Mark Boucher has taken retirement from international cricket after undergoing eye surgery. He sustained eye injury against Somerset during the opening match. Boucher said: " It is with sadness, and in some pain, that I make this announcement. Due to the severity of my eye injury, I will not be able to play international cricket again. "

Former Zimbabwe captain Tatenda Taibu has decided to take retirement from the cricket to devote rest of his life to the church. Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hinted on Thursday at the press conference that he might say goodbye to test cricket by the end of 2013.
