Australia’s upcoming Test tour of South Africa has been postponed due to the new strain of the coronavirus virus in the host country. Australia was supposed to depart for South Africa in late February for the three-match Test series against the Proteas, which was due to start on March 3, but Cricket Australia (CA) postpone the tour keeping public health in mind. CA's interim CEO, Nick Hockley said: "Due to the public health situation in South Africa, which includes a second wave and new variant of the virus, and following extensive due diligence with medical experts, it has become clear that travelling from Australia to South Africa at this current time poses an unacceptable level of health and safety risk to our players, support staff and the community. Cricket Australia have named the preliminary 26-man squad to tour of England in September for a three-match ODI and T20 series. Uncapped trio Daniel Sams, Riley Meredith and Josh Philippe are some of the prominent names in the squad for a potential late summer tour. The left-handed batsman Usman Khawaja and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis have been included in the limited-overs squad despite dropped from the list of nationally contracted players in the winter. Former England captain Andrew Strauss has emerged as a surprise candidate to become CEO of Cricket Australia following the resignation of Kevin Roberts. Cricket Australia has been in a financial loss since the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a report in The Australian , Strauss could be the next CEO of Cricket Australia. The 43-year-old had represented the county cricket for Middlesex and captained the England national team in all formats of the game. He served England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for three years as a director of cricket between 2015 to 2018. Cricket Australia have confirmed that India will travel to Down Under starting October this year comprising four Tests, ODIs as well as T20 Internationals.  The tour will begin with a T20 match, on October 11 at Brisbane followed by other two games on October 14 (Canberra) and October 17 (Adelaide), the CA announced on its official website .  India are then scheduled to play a four-Test match series, beginning on December 3 at Brisbane. The second, third and fourth Tests will be held in Adelaide (December 11-15), Melbourne (December 26-30) and Sydney (January 3 to 7). The former Australian opener Justin Langer has been appointed as Australia's new head coach, succeeding Darren Lehmann, who resigned following the ball tampering incident that took place in South Africa. Langer, 47, who is currently in charge of Western Australia and Perth Scorchers, will start his new role on May 22 for a four-year term. He made his Test debut against the West Indies in 1993 and has since gone on to make 105 Tests for the Baggy Greens, scoring 7696 runs. He also appeared in eight ODIs for the country. The deal estimated at $20 million when it was signed in August 2017, with the company having naming rights sponsorship of domestic Test matches just one summer into the three-year deal. David Warner was the mastermind behind the scandal which has seen him, skipper Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft hit with long-term bans. Former Australian Test bowler Jason Gillespie has been appointed as assistant coach for Australia's Twenty20 campaign against Sri Lanka for the three T20 internationals in February. Cricket Australia have announced that the 41-year-old will work with Justin Langer, who was named as coach earlier this month. Gillespie has a vast of experience including five successful years as head coach of English county Yorkshire.  "I'm just buzzing to get this role. Cricket Australia (CA) have announced ODI squad for the Tour of India , starting from a T20 international on October 10 at Rajkot. Australia skipper Michael Clarke has been ruled out with a low back injury. Mickey Arthur , Australia 's first foreign head coach is seeking up to $4 million in compensation or his job back from Cricket Australia , claiming he was racially discriminated against local media reported on Tuesday. Michael Hussey has withdrawn himself from the 15-man squad tour to England and Ireland, just because of the birth of his fourth child, Cricket Australia said.
