Afghanistan have announced their squad for the Asia Cup, to be played on August 27 in the UAE .  The veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi will lead the side for Asia Cup 2022. Middle-order batsman Najibullah Zadran has been named vice-captain for the tournament.  Afghanistan, placed in Group B, will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka on August 27. Afghanistan have announced their squad for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan. The three-match ODI series will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in September.  The series will be part of the 2020–23 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Northamptonshire Cricket County Club have announced the signing of Afghanistan allrounder Mohammad Nabi for the 2021 edition of the T20 Blast. The 35-year-old has impressive numbers under his belt in the shortest format of the game.  The middle-order Afghan has featured in 78 T20 Internationals for his nation, scoring 1347 runs at an average of over 22 and strike rate of 145.3. In addition to that, the allrounder also has 69 scalps to his name. Northants will be Nabi's third county, after previous spells at Leicestershire and Kent in 2018 and 2019 respectively. The Afghan international Mohammad Nabi will return to Melbourne Renegades on a one-year contract extension for the upcoming season of the KFC Big Bash League. Nabi, who is the No.1-ranked T20I allrounder will join the Renegades after his ongoing stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. “I have always enjoyed my time with the Renegades and testing myself against some of the best T20 players in the world in the Big Bash. I’m very pleased to have re-signed for a fourth season,” the 35-year-old said . Nabi has played 27 matches for the Renegades, averaging 30 with 21 wickets with the ball. Afghanistan top-order batsman Najeeb Tarakai has died from injuries he sustained in a road accident after being hit by a car in Jalalabad on Thursday. The 29-year-old was reportedly hit by a moving car last week while crossing a road. On Tuesday, he succumbed to his injuries, the Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed his death in a statement on Twitter. “ACB and Afghanistan Cricket Loving Nation mourns the heartbreaking and grievous loss of its aggressive opening batsman & a very fine human being Najeeb Tarakai (29) who lost his life to a tragic traffic accident leaving us all shocked,” the board said in a Twitter post.  Tarakai had played 12 T20Is and one ODI for the country. Afghanistan is all set for their first-ever Test match in Australia later this year in December.  It will be Australia’s first international assignment of the summer after the World T20 was rescheduled due to the pandemic. The one-off Test match against Australia is slated to begin on December 7 at the new Perth stadium. However, it will not be a part of the ICC World Test Championship, as the league is restricted to the top nine nations.

Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has been ruled out of the historic one-off Test match against Afghanistan in Bengaluru on June 14. Saha will miss the Test after failing to recover from a thumb injury he picked during the 2nd qualifier of the Indian Premier League 2018. BCCI has named Dinesh Karthik as Saha's replacement, ahead of Parthiv Patel. Karthik, 33, who last played a Test for India back in 2010, has played 23 Tests, scoring 1000 runs with one century and seven fifties. Adelaide Strikers have announced the signing of Afghanistan spin sensation Rashid Khan for the seventh edition of the Australia's domestic T20 Big Bash League. Rashid becomes the first Afghan cricketer to be played in Australia's domestic T20 league and the second overseas player for Strikers. Afghanistan’ to play first bilateral series against West Indies in the first week of June. The series will include three ODIs and three T20Is, that will be played concurrently with the Champions Trophy, starting on June 1 in England.  "It will also be an important series for our side," Roland Holder, WICB Manager of Cricket Operations, said , "as they look to move up in the ICC World Rankings in the two formats, and continue their quest to qualify for the 2019 ICC World Cup in England and Wales.” All three T20s international will be held at Warner Park in St Kitts, from June 2.
