Australia's fast bowler Riley Meredith has officially joined Somerset for their Vitality Blast campaign, committing to the club until at least the quarter-final stage of the competition. The 27-year-old pacer will also be available for the Metro Bank One-Day Cup group stages, along with a "managed number" of Vitality County Championship matches. Expressing his enthusiasm for the stint, the seamer stated, "I'm looking forward to the challenge of playing in English conditions and I can't wait to get started. Somerset are the current Vitality Blast champions, and I'll be doing everything I can to help them retain the title." Meredith's international experience includes five T20Is for Australia, where he claimed eight wickets at an average of 23.50, alongside a solitary ODI appearance against West Indies in 2021. Glamorgan has secured the services of the talented 24-year-old leg-spinner Peter Hatzoglou on a short-term T20 contract.  Hatzoglou's impressive record of 42 wickets in 40 T20 matches makes him a valuable addition to the team.  Initially, the 24-year-old will be available for three matches, providing cover for fellow Australian player Michael Neser, whose absence in the Blast's opening four games is due to his commitment to the Australian training camp, where he is preparing for the upcoming World Test Championship and the Ashes series. Hatzoglou was playing for Buckhurst Hill in club cricket when Glamorgan approached him. While the Australian may not be a direct replacement for the pace-bowling allrounder Michael Neser, he has already made a name for himself in his career.  Glamorgan fans can look forward to witnessing Hatzoglou in action during the upcoming matches against Somerset on May 28, Middlesex on May 31, and Kent on June 2.

The revamped T20 started last night, with Sussex ’s chase down against Surrey the pick of the night’s matches. As for last night, Sussex managed to hit consecutive boundaries with the last two balls to claim an unlikely win over Surrey. Jason Roy and Gary Wilson both hit 50’s as Surrey posted an imposing 171-7 from their 20 overs. Luke Wright smashed 56 in the reply, however when he was bowled by Thomas Curren, Sussex at 107-4 were behind the required run rate. Things got worse for the hosts when Kevin O’Brien claimed two wickets in two balls, meaning Sussex were 111-6! Chris Nash and Chris Jordan steadied the ship, however Sussex were left needing 16 of a final Jade Dernbach over to win the match. Dernbach got rid of Jordan, however it brought Yasri Arafat to the crease and he smashed the hosts home with back to back fours. Pakistani all-rounder Yasir Arafat has signed Sussex for the NatWest T20 Blast tournament which is starting from mid-May until late July, www.sussexcricket.co.uk announced. Arafat has been added as an overseas player for the entire T20 Blast group campaign this season. He already played for Sussex for three times in 2006, 2009 and 2010. The 31-year-old is currently playing in Big Bash League for Perth Scorchers. In Arafat's international career, he has played only three Tests, 11 ODI's and 13 Twenty20 internationals.
