Former Sri Lankan Test skipper Mahela Jayawardene has joined the Adelaide Strikers on a one-year deal for this year’s Big Bash League (BBL) campaign. The 38-year-old veteran, who scored 11,814 runs at an average of 49.84 in 149 Tests, will replace West Indian Kieron Pollard, who has been sidelined with a knee injury. "Mahela is a champion of the game and is without a doubt one of the greatest batsman to play cricket in the modern era," Strikers coach Jason Gillespie said . "Having played against him myself, I'm fully aware of the type of damage he can do, so it'll be exciting to have him on our side this time." Sri Lanka batsman Mahela Jayawardene has announced that he is going to retire from Test cricket after the forthcoming series against South Africa and Pakistan later this year. He will play his last Test against Pakistan in August 14 to 18. The 37-year-old veteran batsman, who already retired from the Twenty20 format after their recent World Twenty20 victory. However, he will continue to play in the 50-over format, making himself available for ICC World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand.

The Sri Lanka batsman Mahela Jayawardene is set to join the Trinidad & Tobago in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League . The 36-year-old will replace South Africa's Davy Jacobs, who was ruled out following an injury. He will be the second Sri Lanka player to play in the CPL, with Muttiah Muralitharan turning out for the Jamaica Tallawahs. Mahela Jayawardene has withdrawn his name from Sri Lanka's Twenty20 captain after loosing the final of the T20 World against West Indies in Colombo. He stated he will remain captain for the ODI and Test teams and available for Twenty20 selection. Jayawardene, 35, said: " I had a chat to the selectors before this tournament started. I was going to step down from T20 captaincy after this World Cup, I personally feel that for Sri Lanka going forward we need a younger leader. It's a great opportunity for somebody to start in that T20 format. I've spoken to the selectors and they were quite happy with that choice. "

Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara has completed 10,000 runs in one-day international cricket and becomes 10th batsman to in the world for completing 10,000 runs. He has achieved this landmark at the tri series match against Australia, on Friday by hitting 11 runs of his innings. After Sanath Jayasuriya and current Captain Mahela Jayawardene , Kumar sangakkara is the third Sri Lankan batsman who scored 10,000 ODI.
