Muttiah Muralitharan signs Melbourne Renegades


Former Sri Lanka spin maestro Muttiah Muralitharan has signed Melbourne Renegades for the next season of Australian Twenty20 KFC Big Bash League.


The 40-year-old who retired from international cricket after the World Cup final 2011.

Muralitharan said, "I wanted to play one season in Australia and the opportunity from the Melbourne Renegades was there so I took it with both hands."

"I think Shane is a great bowler and I've always admired him. I'll try to do well and he'll try to do well for his team."

Muralitharan ended his Test career with a record 800 wickets.

Sri Lanka have announced a 16-man squad for the one-day and Twenty20 matches against Australia. The one-day series will be held from from January 11-23 across Australia, and the two T20 internationals will be played in Sydney on January 26 and Melbourne on January 28. Sri Lanka ODI, T20 squad : Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Lasith Malinga, Upul Tharanga, Lahiru Thirimanne, Ajantha Mendis, Jeevan Mendis, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Kushal Perera, Akila Dananjaya, Suranga Lakmal, Thisara Perera, Shaminda Eranga.
