Australian-born Grant Stewart has put pen to a paper on his first professional contract for Kent. The 23-year-old seamer has impressed in the second XI as joint leading wicket-taker across all formats with 29 competitive wickets and scored an unbeaten half-century with the bat. The seamer, who can bats at lower-order lineup, has also scored a century and seven 50s this season. He said : “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Kent and I’m delighted to get the opportunity to work with the first-team squad and coaches. “Becoming a full-time professional means I can dedicate more time to developing my game and I hope I can contribute to some success for the club.” Stewart is not considered as an overseas player as the all-rounder has an EU passport through his mother’s Italian ancestry.

Australian pacer James Pattinson has been ruled out of the tour with inflammation in his back for their upcoming Test tour of Bangladesh. The Victorian fast bowler last played for the Aussies in February 2016. His impressive performances for Nottinghamshire earned him a recall to the country’s Champions Trophy squad apparently he did not play any of the games. The 27-year-old picked a total of 32 wickets in five County Championship games for Nottinghamshire. Meanwhile, fast bowler Jackson Bird has replaced Pattinson in the 14-man Test squad. Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen is hopeful of representing his native South Africa even though he'll be turning 40 when he re-qualifies. Pietersen, 37, hadn’t been selected for the national team after being sacked in the conclusion of the 2013-14 Ashes defeat in Australia. The right-handed batsman will be eligible to play for the Proteas in 2019. "You are talking about in two years' time. Would I? Who knows? We'll have to wait and see where I am," said Pietersen. New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Ronchi has announced his retirement from the international cricket at the age of 36. Born in New Zealand but raised in Australia, Ronchi has played four Tests, 85 ODIs and 32 Twenty20 internationals for Black Caps. The right-handed batsman, who represented Australia between 2008 and 2009, has averaged 23.67 in ODIs at a strike-rate of 114.50, and 18.89 in T20Is at a strike-rate of 141.33. "It was a dream come true," the 36-year-old said . "I can't think of a better time to have been involved with New Zealand cricket.
