Natwest T20 Review

The revamped T20 started last night, with Sussex’s chase down against Surrey the pick of the night’s matches.

As for last night, Sussex managed to hit consecutive boundaries with the last two balls to claim an unlikely win over Surrey.

Jason Roy and Gary Wilson both hit 50’s as Surrey posted an imposing 171-7 from their 20 overs.
Luke Wright smashed 56 in the reply, however when he was bowled by Thomas Curren, Sussex at 107-4 were behind the required run rate.

Things got worse for the hosts when Kevin O’Brien claimed two wickets in two balls, meaning Sussex were 111-6!

Chris Nash and Chris Jordan steadied the ship, however Sussex were left needing 16 of a final Jade Dernbach over to win the match.

Dernbach got rid of Jordan, however it brought Yasri Arafat to the crease and he smashed the hosts home with back to back fours.

Elsewhere Northants edged past Yorkshire by three wickets, with England under-19 wicket keeper Ben Duckett the star of the show.

With Northants in trouble, he hit an unbeaten 39 of just 29 deliveries to give them a chance of chasing down Yorkshire’s 162-7.

Needing nine from the final four deliveries, Duckett smashed a huge maximum, before Graeme White found the boundary as they got home with a ball to spare.

Former England T20 captain Paul Collingwood stared with the bat and ball as Durham comfortably beat Worcestershire.

In a partnership of 113 with Calum MacLeod, the pair rescued Durham’s innings and helped them post 173-4, with Collingwood finishing on 62.

Despite a solid opening partnership, Worcestershire’s reply struggled and they fell 29 runs short.
Collingwood claimed 3-29 with the ball, including the key wicket of Richard Oliver, who top scored with 43.

Samit Patel inspired Nottinghamshire past Lancashire, scoring 56 off just 41 with the bat, before claiming two wickets.

Scott Styris was at his brilliant best, scoring 63 from just 31 balls as Leicestershire posted 197-4 from their 20 overs.

Derbyshire were never really close to chasing them down, finishing on 170-7, despite Marcus North’s 90.

Elsewhere Somerset had too much for Gloucestershire, whilst Glamorgan beat Hampshire by 10 runs.

Today Middlesex play twice at Lords, starting against Essex at 12:00, who come into the game on the back of beating the Sri Lankans.

That is followed up by the visit of Sussex, with the other game at Old Trafford, as Lancashire host Worcestershire.

Durham vs. Worcestershire – Durham won by 29 runs
Gloucestershire vs. Somerset – Somerset won by 18 runs
Leicestershire vs. Derbyshire – Leicestershire won by 27 runs
Yorkshire vs. Northamptonshire – Northamptonshire won by three wickets
Nottinghamshire vs. Lancashire – Nottinghamshire won by 33 runs
