Mahela Jayawardene to quit Test cricket

Sri Lanka batsman Mahela Jayawardene has announced that he is going to retire from Test cricket after the forthcoming series against South Africa and Pakistan later this year.

The former skipper, who is one of the most capped players for his country, has scored 11,493 runs in 145 Tests at an average of above 50. He will play his last Test against Pakistan in August 14 to 18.

The 37-year-old veteran batsman, who already retired from the Twenty20 format after their recent World Twenty20 victory.
However, he will continue to play in the 50-over format, making himself available for ICC World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand.

Sri Lanka have announced a 16-man squad for the one-day and Twenty20 matches against Australia. The one-day series will be held from from January 11-23 across Australia, and the two T20 internationals will be played in Sydney on January 26 and Melbourne on January 28.
