England eye Test revolution, County Championship takes shape, T20 World Cup looms large

Cricket fans have plenty to look forward to during the rest of 2022, with the upcoming schedule packed with tons of top-class action.

Before the tournament gets underway, England’s Test team will dominate most of the summer headlines as they bid to bounce back to form.

With the County Championship also in full swing, this is a good time to look at what the rest of the year has in store.

England eye Test revolution under McCullum


Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has a big job on his hands as he bids to turn England’s fortunes around in Test cricket.

The 40-year-old has signed a four-deal as head coach of England’s Test team and will kick off his tenure with a three-match series against his former team.


McCullum, who is better known as a coach in the white-ball version of the game, was a unanimous choice by the ECB’s selection panel.

He will be tasked with working closely with new captain Ben Stokes as England strive to bounce back from series defeats against Australia and West Indies.

Lancashire make a solid start to their title bid


Lancashire went into the 2022 County Championship season eager to put their final day disappointment last year firmly behind them.

They missed out on lifting the trophy last time around as Warwickshire swept to victory in the deciding match by an innings and 199 runs.

They have made a solid start to the current campaign, winning two and drawing three of their opening five matches.

The Red Rose outfit were unfortunate not to defeat Yorkshire in their most recent outing and look a good bet to claim top spot this season.

Nottinghamshire on a mission in Division Two


Nottinghamshire have made a strong start to life in Division Two and may well be on course to make a swift return to the top flight.

They were denied top spot as Middlesex salvaged a draw at Lord's, with Sam Robson's second successive century and an afternoon downpour thwarting their efforts.

Steven Mullaney’s superb unbeaten 55-ball century in the second innings deserved a much better outcome than a rain affected draw.

However, with a deep batting line-up and strong bowling attack, Nottinghamshire should mount a strong promotion challenge as the season progresses.

England fancied to claim T20 title


The delayed T20 Cricket World Cup in Australia is unquestionably the highlight of the cricket calendar in 2022.

Reigning champions Australia will fancy their chances of retaining the title on home soil, although no team has achieved that feat in the history of the tournament.

India are strongly fancied by many respected pundits, but this could be the year when England get their name on the trophy for the second time.

A disappointing semi-final exit against New Zealand in 2021 should provide the players with enough motivation to set the record straight this year.
