Cricket Betting: Tips & Strategies to Aid your Cricket Picks

The sport of cricket is a pastime in parts of the world and a viable option on the sports betting menu. It's complexities notwithstanding; there are general cricket betting tips that help provide an enjoyable and profitable day of action.

As some readers know, a single cricket match can actually provide multiple days of profit as certain games are played over multiple days. The longest is “Test” cricket, which is played mostly at the international level and covers five days. Knowing whether a game will be played over a single- or multiple-days is critical to a smart betting decision.

You can wager on the match results or even in-game play depending on the betting shop. To help formulate your cricket betting picks in these situations it's worth knowing that home field advantage is often a deciding factor in international cricket. To illustrate the point, a country like Australia—which is usually ranked among the top teams in the world—have rarely won when traveling to play in India. England is another team that historically struggles in India.

In addition to where the match is being played, you will also want to study the individual matchups between the players to help find a live long shot. That's because, for a multitude of reasons, even the best batsmen can struggle against a particular bowler—even one that may be deemed statistically inferior.

Weather can also play a role for the astute bettor. Multi-day cricket games can be dramatically affected by a rain break, which also leaves opportunities to be found in the betting market. Weather also effects how particular wagers are paid out.

Finally, let's take a brief look the Duckworth-Lewis method. This mathematical formula is considered to be the most accurate method of setting a target score. It calculates the impact a stoppage will have on the result of a one-day game and can prove an excellent handicapping tool.
