Mike Hesson has announced that he will be stepping down as Blackcaps coach citing family reasons. The 43-year-old, who guided the team to new heights across all three formats, will resign as coach at the end of next month, less than a year out from the ICC World Cup. He made it clear in a statement that he wanted to spend more quality time with his family and said he no longer felt fully committed to the role for another 12 months. Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has been ruled out of the historic one-off Test match against Afghanistan in Bengaluru on June 14. Saha will miss the Test after failing to recover from a thumb injury he picked during the 2nd qualifier of the Indian Premier League 2018. South Africa star batsman AB de Villiers announced his retirement on Wednesday from international cricket with immediate effect. Former Australian international Mark Waugh has lashed out at "selfish" India for snubbing to play a day-night Test match during their tour of Australia later this year. Cricket Australia wanted the first Test to be played under the lights in Adelaide from December 6. But India, who are yet to play a day-night format, said they were not ready in playing in such a high-profile series. The Baggy Green have played four day-night Tests since 2015, three of them in Adelaide itself, winning them all. Waugh, 52, said the decision from Indian cricket was not only disappointing, but selfish given the falling popularity of Test cricket. The former Australian opener Justin Langer has been appointed as Australia's new head coach, succeeding Darren Lehmann, who resigned following the ball tampering incident that took place in South Africa. Langer, 47, who is currently in charge of Western Australia and Perth Scorchers, will start his new role on May 22 for a four-year term. He made his Test debut against the West Indies in 1993 and has since gone on to make 105 Tests for the Baggy Greens, scoring 7696 runs. He also appeared in eight ODIs for the country. The next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) could likely to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the country’s general elections set to take place in 2019. The 12th season of the IPL set to get underway on March 29 to May 19 next year but BCCI are fully aware that there remains a possibility of general elections happening during that time of the year. “Well, we will only take a call when the situation arises, but we are ready for any such eventuality. United Arab Emirates looks to be the most likely country where it would be shifted if need be,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on the condition of anonymity. “UAE’s time zone suits the Indian audience unlike South Africa,” he stated. IPL matches could be played at three venues — Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Previously, it happened twice in the past due to general elections. In 2009, the IPL was shifted to South Africa while in 2014, the first part of the mega-rich T20 league was held in the UAE.

Australian batsman Usman Khawaja has joined the Welsh county cricket side Glamorgan for the summer's Vitality T20 blast. The 31-year-old is Glamorgan's second overseas player for the English domestic T20 competition alongside fellow countryman Shaun Marsh, who will be available to play for the entire season. Zimbabwe will host Australia and Pakistan for a T20 tri-series starting this July. The hosts opted not to play any Tests against the two heavyweights sides, even though Aussies were scheduled to play one Test, while Pakistan were supposed to face Zimbabwe in a two-Test series.
