NZ tour of Bangladesh postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic - New Zealand tour of Bangladesh has been postponed on Tuesday. Black Caps were slated to play two Tests in August-September this year as part of the ICC World Test Championship. Three Bangladeshi players, including Nazmul Islam, Nafees Iqbal and the former ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza, have tested positive for the deadly contagion. “In the present COVID-19 pandemic scenario, hosting a full cricket series in August 2020 will be a challenge in terms of preparations,” BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said in a statement. “Under these circumstances, the BCB and NZC (New Zealand Cricket) have felt that the best way forward would be to defer the series,” he added. The governing bodies from both sides were working on a new schedule for the Test series. Bangladesh has so far reported more than 100k coronavirus cases with over 1,500 mortality.

Cricket Australia: Andrew Strauss tipped to become the next CEO

Former England captain Andrew Strauss has emerged as a surprise candidate to become CEO of Cricket Australia following the resignation of Kevin Roberts. Cricket Australia has been in a financial loss since the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a report in The Australian , Strauss could be the next CEO of Cricket Australia. The 43-year-old had represented the county cricket for Middlesex and captained the England national team in all formats of the game. He served England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for three years as a director of cricket between 2015 to 2018. After Roberts resigned from his position of CEO, Nick Hockley was named in as an interim replacement with the governing body searching for the ideal candidate to serve as a full-time CEO. Strauss has scored 7,037 runs in 100 Tests and 4,205 runs in 127 ODIs during his playing career with England. T20 World Cup 2020 ‘Looks unrealistic’, says CA chairman

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic followed by lockdown across the globe, cricketing boards are considering all options to organise tournaments or bilateral series.  Recently, the West Indies team touched down in the UK to prepare for the Test series against England which gets underway on July 9. However, cricket fans are keeping a close eye on the 2020 biggest competition - the T20 World Cup, in Australia later this year. But the Cricket Australia (CA) chairman Earl Eddings gave hints that the event may face hurdles. He spoke to local media and stated that it would be ‘unrealistic’ to organise the T20I World Cup this year in the midst of a global coronavirus pandemic. The tournament slated to be played from October 18 to November 15 in Downunder.

West Indies en route to England for three-match Test series

The West Indies cricket team have departed for the three-match Test tour of England starting from July 8. The tourists will be tested for COVID-19 again upon arrival in the UK ahead of the seven-week tour. Windies became the first international team to travel overseas after the coronavirus pandemic had suspended cricket for more than two months.
