RIP Tony Greig | 1946 - 2012

Former England skipper and a commentator Tony Greig dies at the age of 66 after losing his battle with lung cancer at a Sydney hospital. The ' Sydney Morning Herald ' reported, " On his return to Australia he had fluid removed from the right lung and testing revealed he had lung cancer. " In his career, Greig played 58 Test match and scored 3,599 runs and picked up 141 wickets. In 22 ODIs, Greig scored 269 runs and managed 19 wickets. Greig was a one of the best leading international all-rounder for England.

Sangakkara passes 10,000 Test runs

Sri Lanka wicket-keeper cum batsman Kumar Sangakkara became the 11th cricketer to pass 10,000 runs in Test cricket during the second Test against Australia in Melbourne on Wednesday. The 35-year-old Sangakkara is the second Sri Lankan in the 10,000-Test runs after Mahela Jayawardene . Sachin Retires - An End of an Era in ODI's

Sachin Tendulkar One of the great player in cricket history has retired from ODI. His last ODI against Pakistan in Dhaka during the Asia Cup, where he made a half-century in India's victory. Sachin said in a statement, " I have decided to retire from the One Day format of the game, I feel blessed to have fulfilled the dream of being part of a World Cup winning Indian team. The preparatory process to defend the World Cup in 2015 should begin early and in right earnest. I would like to wish the team all the very best for the future. I am eternally grateful to all my well wishers for their unconditional support and love over the years. " Tendulkar made his ODI debut in 1989, against Pakistan in Gujranwala, where he got a duck. He played 463 ODIs, scored 18,426 runs and made 49 centuries, each of them a world record. All-rounder Kevin Pietersen has been rested from England's one-day squads against New Zealand, starting from February 17 in Hamilton. Geoff Miller , England's national selector, said: " There are a number of players who we have decided not to select for parts of the competitive programme this winter as we look to manage their workloads effectively while ensuring we remain competitive across all formats. We feel this is the best way of keeping players as physically and mentally fresh as possible during a demanding 2013 and beyond. Saeed Ajmal signs Hampshire

The Pakistan spin bowler, Saeed Ajmal has signed Hampshire for the later stages of the 2013 county cricket . Ajmal will join Hampshire in the mid of August and September. Giles White, The Hampshire's manager, said, " As things stand, it is possible that both George and Danny could be involved in the ODI series between England and Australia so the availability of Saeed for August and September is a great fit. Tom Moody named Sunrisers coach

The former Australia allrounder and Sri Lankan coach, Tom Moody  has been appointed as a coach of the Hyderabad IPL franchise Sunrisers . Moody said, " This is a proud moment for us as we unveil our new name and logo and we are sure that the team will be successful in the forthcoming season of IPL 2013, We are keenly looking forward to it and our game will stand testimony to the competition we will give to other teams. Sun Risers the name of Hyderabad IPL franchise

IPL franchise from Hyderabad city has been named as Sun Risers by its owners Sun TV Network, announced in Chennai on Tuesday. Previously it was known as the Deccan Chargers and owned by Deccan Chronicle Holdings Limited. Sun Risers have the best players Kumar Sangakkara, Dale Steyn, Ishant Sharma and JP Duminy for IPL 2013.

Fast bowler James Anderson and batsman Jonathan Trott has been ruled out from the ODI series against India in January and replaced them with Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler. Ashes 2013 - The Venues

It would be fair to say that the Ashes always captures everyone's attention and with England desperate to retain the famous urn for yet another series, anticipation is already high for the next event in 2013. There is already a big emphasis on the venues in the series, with both teams having their favoured ones. Bearing this in mind, we'll now take a look at the five venues that have been selected for the Ashes in 2013. Trent Bridge This is the venue for the first test, with Trent Bridge being the host between the 10th and 14th of July. Few people realise the history that Trent Bridge is delved in, with the venue being the third oldest ground in the world. Anyone that has visited it in the past will appreciate its traditional appearance, although any England follower probably won't have too many fond memories. Australia have made a habit of succeeding at Trent Bridge, with the ground not only being a bad omen for England in the Ashes but all other matches.

Brad Young signs Adelaide Strikers

A left-arm orthodox spinner, Brad Young has joined the Big Bash League after signing the Adelaide Strikers . Young played six ODI's for Australia in between 1998 to 1999. Young said, " I played when Australia were the No. 1 side in the world, I look back with fond memories and hopefully there are a few more over the next few weeks, I have a wiser head on my shoulders. I do feel ready, shed a few kilos, the ball is coming out well and I am just trying to get up to speed on the fielding and batting. "

Pakistan allrounder, Shahid Afridi has been ruled out from the ODI squad against India in December. However, Afridi retained in Twenty20 squad. Pakistan's chief selector Iqbal Qasim said, "Dropping Afridi was a difficult decision, He is no doubt a great player and has the ability to win a game, but the decision has been taken in the interest of the team. We did retain him in the T20 squad and if he performs well he can win back his ODI place in the future." Australia Test squad to face Sri Lanka

Phillip Hughes has been included in the Australia's first Test against Sri Lanka in Hobart. John Inverarity, the national selector, said " Phillip Hughes has been selected to fill the vacancy created by Ricky Ponting's retirement. " Hughes made his last Test century against Sri Lanka, in Colombo 2011.
